I wanted to let you know ahead of
time that I will be having another unveiling on Saturday, September
6, 2008 inside Shenanigans at McMullan's Irish Pub, 4650 W.
Tropicana Ave, across from the Orleans Hotel and Casino. The
event will be from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., and I am hoping to unveil
five new pieces! The project is called IRONY, and each piece
has something ironic about it. I will have artists notes
available for people to read so they can understand the pieces
better.
ARTIST KAREN WHEELER TO UNVEIL LATEST WATERCOLOR PROJECT "THE FATE OF LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD"
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13 AT McMULLAN’S IRISH PUB, 6PM—9PM
LAS VEGAS - DECEMBER 13, 2007 – After nearly 2 years of work, artist Karen Wheeler will unveil her newest watercolor project titled “The Fate of Little Red Riding Hood”. The piece consists of three separate paintings, or a tryptic, illustrating the tale about the little girl who meets up with a wolf in the forest on the way to her grandmother's house. Originally, Wheeler thought of this idea back in high school and has carried it in her mind throughout the years. Each piece can stand on its' own or they can work together as a dynamic group. The true story and fate of Little Red Hiding Hood will be left up to the viewer after viewing these magnificent paintings.
This event is free and open to the public from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., and other paintings by Karen Wheeler will also be on display. Giclee prints, greeting cards and John Lennon dog tag necklaces and key chains will be for sale. A limited edition print of “The Fate of Little Red Riding Hood” will be auctioned off at approximately 7:30 p.m. to benefit the Southern Nevada Muscular Dystrophy Association. Pub owner Brian McMullan will be officiating the auction.
Musician Todd Kerns will be performing the music for this special gathering. Todd is a well-known artist and is the front man for many popular bands such as Black Diamond, the Limey Bar Stewards, the Underground Rebels and the M 80’s.
McMullan's Irish Pub is located at 4650 W. Tropicana Ave., Las Vegas, and it is situated across the street from the Orleans Casino and Hotel. McMullan's Irish Pub is known for its traditional Irish fare and delightful environment.

It started with a dream…
Artist Karen Wheeler will be unveiling the most complicated watercolor painting ever created during her career. Born with a form of Muscular Dystrophy, she has been drawing since the age of five. She received a Master’s degree in art from California State University, Fullerton in 1981 with a 4.0 grade point average. In spite of her severe physical limitations she is a well-respected artist and member of the Vegas Artists Guild and Nevada Watercolor Society.
The watercolor to be unveiled is titled Tribute To Rembrandt. It took approximately 500 hours to complete and it is the largest painting Karen has ever created. It is approximately 9 inches by 22 inches, and she couldn’t physically reach far enough to work on it vertically. Most of the time she had to hold her breath while working. The brush strokes are tiny, overlapping layers of pigment, producing a finished piece that sparkles like a jewel.
The unveiling will happen at Caesar’s Palace (Emperors Level, Ballroom 3) in Las Vegas on Friday, April 8, 2005 from 6 p.m. until 9
p.m. Along with the unveiling will be a slide show created with an original score by musician Paul Mills showing the entire creation process of Tribute To Rembrandt.
A limited edition, hand-signed giclee of this piece will also be auctioned off with all proceeds going to the Southern Nevada Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Paul Mills will supply music for the evening, and there will be light refreshments.
